Rice professors are among the most distinguished faculty in the world. Your relationship with faculty members is one of our highest priorities. With a median class size of 15 students, you'll find an engaging, interactive classroom environment. Excellent teaching is at the heart of a Rice education, and our professors are here to teach you to think globally - in and out of the classroom - and challenge conventional wisdom. At Rice, you'll know your instructors, and they'll know you.
Rice fields 14 men's and women's Division I varsity teams, competing at the NCAA Division 1 level and as members of Conference USA. More than half of our varsity athletes are named to the annual Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, which salutes athletes who maintain cumulative GPA's of 3.0 or better.
Continuing with the theme of balance, “students at Rice work hard and accomplish great things in academics and extracurriculars. But this is complemented and supported by a thriving social life.” Students report a wide range of activities and interests outside the classroom. What they all have in common is their satisfaction with life at Rice. “The environment is very inclusive. People are free to do whatever they want with whoever they want.” “On any given Friday night you might find various religious organizations meeting, a group of friends playing board games in the commons space, a crowd of people heading to a party, and a carload of students heading off-campus to see a movie.” Intramural sports and campus traditions are popular, and “the typical student seems to be involved in at least three or four activities.”
