The University of Rochester is a top tier research university comprising more than two hundred majors, two thousand faculty, and instructional staff, and “a wealth and myriad of opportunity.” “If you want to be successful, you have the chance to do it here,” says a student. The courses at U of R are “hard but rewarding,” and each professor has his or her own teaching style, bringing all the material being taught to life. The “passionate and compassionate alike” teachers “are there to help and want you to succeed, but you still have to work hard to get a good grade”; luckily, the “enormous” administrator to student ratio means plenty of accessibility for students. One of the greatest benefits of U of R is that it “offers world class research opportunities to passionate students at any level.” Everyone is very serious about their major--“taking difficult course loads is extremely common”—and “Rochester is populated with students who would turn the library into a social spot.”
With more than 250 student organizations, ranging from cultural and political to religious and athletic, students at Rochester can easily find communities of friends who share their interests and passions. When it's time for recreation, Rochester students flock to the Goergen Athletic Center. The Center includes an 11,000 square-foot fitness facility; an indoor track and activity field; a swimming pool and diving well; numerous courts for basketball, indoor tennis, racquetball, squash, and volleyball; a state-of-the-art athletic training facility; and the Palestra, home for 23 Division III varsity teams and host to various campus events.
