A Washington and Lee education combines the best aspects of both college and university life. Students enjoy small classes and close relationships with professors. Washington and Lee University offers 37 undergraduate majors and 29 minors, including a number of interdisciplinary programs. The University prides itself on the depth and breadth of our curriculum, in which traditional liberal arts courses are augmented by offerings from the only fully-accredited business school and fully-accredited journalism program among the nation's top-tier liberal arts colleges. From student research to service learning, fellowships and internships to study abroad, students at Washington and Lee have a wealth of opportunities at their fingertips.
Living in campus residence halls is an important part of every W&L undergraduate student's experience. All first-years, sophomores, and juniors live in University housing, in a variety of group settings including traditional residence halls, apartments, townhouses, and themed housing. Rising seniors typically secure living arrangements off-campus, however a limited number or rooms are usually available for seniors who wish to remain on campus.
With over 130 student organizations to choose from, as well as speakers, concerts, movies and events throughout the year, life at W&L is never dull. And if the right opportunity doesn't exist, students are given the tools and encouragement to start something new. Washington and Lee offers 24 varsity sports, 12 for men and 12 for women. All sports compete at the NCAA Division III level.
